The one limitation of the stock is the lack of a rear sling attachment. The Choate Tactical stock does have a rear sling attachment however it in the middle of the stock. The location of the sling attachments for the Choate stocks is one of the features that Major John Plaster helped design. The premise is that many long range shooters remove the rear sling attachment because it tends to get in the way when shooting prone or when shooting from a bench. Secondly, when a sniper is crawling on his belly he will carry his rifle on top of his upper arm and/or across his back while holding the sling in his hand to steady the rifle and to keep it readily available. Major John Plaster believes that a side mounted sling helps the sniper with these tasks.

One of the issues that we’ve encountered is many people want to use a Karsten adjustable cheek piece with their Choate Tactical stock. To install an adjustable cheek rest the sling attachments must be removed and a sling is no longer an option without some creativity. The RAR solves this issue by providing a picatinny rail that can accept any rail mounted sling swivel.

A second reason one might want to install a rail on the bottom of their stock might be to add an attaching point for a rear monopod such as the AccuShot Precision Rail Mount or PRM.

The RAR is an aluminim 1913 Picatinny rail with 3 cross slots.

Installation is simple and can be done in less than 30-minutes with basic hand tools.

First step is to place the RAR on the bottom of the stock and drill the first pilot hole. The RAR has an arrow on the inside of the rail that points to the front of the rail. The RAR can be installed with arrow pointing toward the muzzle, front of the rifle, or toward rear of the rifle. With the RAR installed with the arrow pointing toward the front of the rifle the RAR will be slightly angled toward the front of the rifle. If using a rail mounted sling swivel the slight angle will support the natural installation of a sling.

To locate where the rail should be attached simply place the RAR on the bottom of the stock and mark your holes. It is suggested that you attach whatever accessory you plan to use on the rail to make sure it, along with the RAR, will have the necessary clearance before drilling holes in your stock.

The casting seam of the stock was used to center the RAR on the stock. Be careful not to over tighten the screws or you might strip out the hole in the stock. If this happens go to your local hardware store and purchase a slightly larger diameter screw. The RAR Kit’s screws can be replaced with similar diameter screws with a little more length if desired.

Project complete.
