The Lumley Remington 700 DBM is made from only high grade steels. There are no aluminum alloys, and definitely no plastic anywhere on these units, however they do include bedding pillars which are machined from 6061-T6 then gold anodized. All minor components are 316 stainless steel, including the spring, roll-pin, lever and action screws.

There are two variations available - either 316 stainless steel (passivated) or 4140 ordnance steel (QPQ nitrided). Both variants are CNC machined from one block of solid billet, with the inside corners of the magazine well EDM wire cut. The DBM is then polished to remove all tooling marks then a glass bead blast to a stain finish. At this point the stainless unit is passivated for the ultimate in corrosion resistance, while the 4140 cromoly variant is QPQ nitrided resulting in an extremely high surface hardness (59-60 Rc) and a nice matte black color.

Lumley's steel units for the Remington 700 short action weigh roughly 250 grams (0.55 pounds). Although just over twice the weight as an equivalent aluminum alloy unit of around 110 grams (0.24 pounds), the difference is negligible when weighing up the added benefits of using these high grade steels. Specifically they won't chip like aluminum does when a hard impact is encountered and the teflon coated AICS magazines slide in and lock up with very little resistance or abrasion unlike aluminum where the anodizing wears off over time in the key friction points.

Features:

  • Completely CNC machined from one large block of 4140 ordnance grade stainless steel (black) OR 316 marine grade stainless steel (silver) with the magwell EDM wire cut
  • Post machining glass bead blasting and polishing to remove all tooling marks, resulting in a satin finish
  • For the silver option the unit has post-machining passivation for extra corrosion resistance
  • For the black option the unit has been QPQ nitrided to a 60 Rockwell C hardness, resulting in a matte black color.
  • Fits Remington 700 short action M5 inlet
  • Long ambidextrous magazine release paddle with serrations for grip
  • Completely chamfered to eliminate sharp edges
  • Includes front and rear CNC machined 6061-T6 pillars and hex-head action screws
  • Also includes spare parts (lever pins, lever springs)

Fitting:

Fitting is relatively straightforward if fitting to a stock with the M5 inlet, however for other stocks, gunsmith installation is recommended as the inlet is best cut on a CNC milling machine, or carefully on a manual mill. The unit comes with the inlet profile printed in the carton and you can find comprehensive fitting instructions here. Please note fitting the pillars or ensuring the action to DBM is spaced as per the pillar length eliminates 95% of common fitting and function issues.
